God's Rules
by Bruce Holmes

Do you believe in eternity?
Well I'm not sure I do
Once you've lived through a trillion years
What the hell would you do?

Maybe start up your own small world
Watch the drama evolve
Watch them fight for their holy words
Scream your name with resolve

chorus:
I've lived among the sinners and saints
And I've lived among the wise and the fools
The souls most full of bitter and blame
Were sure they knew God's rules

Do you believe God should answer prayers
Save our butt when fate calls
Make things easy and always fair
Take good care of us all?

Maybe hurt's not the will of God
Maybe life isn’t fair
Maybe God didn't want the job
Saving your child not theirs

chorus

Is it sin when two lovers know
What the church hasn't graced
Don't we all have the right to know
Least one lover's embrace

Isn't sex how a child's begun
Isn't lust how love's made
I hope all of you have someone
I hope Jesus got laid

chorus

How can anyone speak for God?
Yet they all want the chance
Lord it over their sinful flock
Seems an arrogant stance

chorus

I can live with some mystery
I don't believe in belief
I do hope for a God of love
And for me that's enough

When the burning bush asks for blood
Do you shake and obey?
Or stand on the side of love
And find your own way?
